Bill Scott was born on September 27th, 1930, in Lincoln, Nebraska. His parents were John and Elizabeth Scott, Ashland, Nebraska. Bill is married to Ruth Scott and they have three sons: John, Don, and Dave.
Bill attended Ashland Public Schools, grade and high school. After graduating, he attended the University of Nebraska Business College, graduating in 1952.
Bill got a trumpet at age 10 and began taking lessons and played in the high school band.
Bill began his playing career with the Polka Kings of Omaha in 1955. He later played with Ray Dusatko Trio with Ray on accordion, a drummer, and Bill on trumpet in the bars in Omaha. He then played for the popular Polonairs band of Omaha led by Milt Jaworski. Then, in around 1968, Milt’s health issues wouldn’t allow him to lead the band, so he asked Bill to lead the Polonairs.
Interesting fact: The Hall of Fame in 1972 had four bands that day playing: Eddie Janak, Al Grebnick, Vern Luddington, and the Polinairs.
Bill likes all kinds of music but polka and country are his favorites.
