Steven Mark Hines

Steven Mark Hines was born on February 22nd, 1961, in Schuyler, Nebraska. His parents were Ernest and Marie (Hajek) Hines. Steve is married to Vickie (Cross) Hines, they have a son, Derek, and Daughter-in-law, Rachel (Beckstead) Hines, and two grandsons: Connor and Elliott.
Steve attended school in Schuyler where he graduated from Schuyler Central in 1979. He then attended Platte Community College graduating in 1981. It was while he was in college that he was a member of the Brazz Jazz Band from 1979 to 1981.
At age 13, Steve got a set of drums and Milo Palensky was the one who gave him his first drum lesson and Bud Comte’s Studio in David City, Nebraska. Milo Palensky and Ernie Kucera (both drummers) were a very important influence on Steve. His first job was with the Michael Brecka Orchestra in 1975.

Steve has been inducted into the Musicians Hall of Fame and has received a Nebraska County Music Award.
Steve and his family lived across the street from the ZCBJ hall in Linwood, Nebraska, where polka bands would often perform late into the evening. Growing up in a farming family, fishing, hunting, and the Czech music and culture were a big part of Steve’s life. His parents were the greatest influences for his love of Czech music and culture.
